Back to newsA 55-year-old woman had to be rescued by the fire brigade while hiking through Imbros Gorge, near Chania in western Crete. She felt unwell during the trek and was unable to continue on her own. Emergency services were called and carried out an operation to bring her out safely.
Imbros Gorge is one of the most popular hiking trails in Crete, offering a scenic 8 km route through dramatic limestone cliffs. The gorge is accessible to most fitness levels, but hikers should be aware that rescue operations in the area can be time-consuming due to the terrain.
If you plan to hike Imbros Gorge, bring plenty of water, wear appropriate footwear, and avoid the trail during the hottest hours of the day. Always let someone know your plans before setting out.
