Back to newsA fire broke out in the early hours of Friday, May 29 at a food production workshop in Krousonas, a village located approximately 25 kilometers south of Heraklion in the foothills of Mount Ida. The Heraklion Fire Brigade responded immediately and mobilized crews to the scene. Krousonas is a quiet inland village known for its traditional Cretan character and is occasionally visited by tourists exploring the interior of the island on day trips from Heraklion. The incident does not appear to affect major tourist areas or road access to the region. Visitors planning to travel through the Malevizi area or toward the Ida plateau should check locally for any temporary road closures related to fire service operations. No injuries have been reported at this stage.
