Back to newsA new Archaeological Museum has officially been unveiled in Archanes, a historic village in the Heraklion regional unit of central Crete. Greek Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni attended the presentation ceremony. Archanes is known for its significant Minoan heritage, including the nearby palatial site of Anemospilia and the Minoan cemetery at Fourni, one of the largest Bronze Age burial grounds in the Aegean. The new museum is expected to house artifacts from these local excavations, giving visitors a dedicated space to explore the area's rich prehistoric past. Archanes is located approximately 16 kilometers south of Heraklion city center and is easily accessible by car or bus. Tourists visiting Knossos may consider extending their trip to include Archanes as part of a broader Minoan heritage itinerary.
