Authorities have placed firefighting units on high alert across both prefectures. Dry conditions and seasonal winds are typical contributors to elevated fire danger during this period. Tourists visiting archaeological sites, hiking trails, or rural areas in Heraklion and Lasithi should exercise caution. Avoid lighting fires, barbecues, or discarding cigarettes outdoors. If you spot smoke or an active fire, call the Greek emergency number 112 or the Fire Service directly at 199 immediately. Rental car drivers and hikers in forested or scrubland areas should stay on marked roads and trails and monitor local announcements.
