The findings highlight the extraordinary status symbols used by ruling classes during this period, roughly 3,500 years ago. Meteoritic iron, which falls from space rather than being mined and processed, was exceptionally rare and required no smelting technology, making objects crafted from it highly prestigious. For visitors to Crete, this discovery adds fascinating context to the Minoan civilization, one of Europe's earliest advanced cultures, which flourished on the island during this same Bronze Age period. The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion houses an outstanding collection of Minoan artifacts, including jewelry and ceremonial objects, offering a direct connection to the elite society described in this research.
