In the periphery of the village Kato Archanes and near Sylamos , we meet the ruins of Panagia nunnery at position Karydaki . It was a two-aisled church with a transverse narthex.
From a spring next to this monastery , the famous Morosini fountain in Candia (current Heraklion ’s Lions Square) was watered after running through the giant Venetian aqueduct of Morozini . Reaching the temple easy, but you have either to cross the nearby aqueduct of Karydaki or walk in a lush green trail in the gorge Sylamiano .
In the river just below the monastery, a nice waterfall is formed, reaching a height of 3m.
