Keratides is located about 1km west of Paleochora harbor, 79km south of Chania city , just after the exit of Azogirianos river and the beach Halikia and before Gialiskari . Keratides is a beach with pebbles and stones, which is not particularly preferred for swimming by those who love crowds and many amenities.

It is not particularly organized and it is a great option for those looking for peace, close to the city, but also for those who snorkel. Next to Keratides there is also the second organized campsite in the area, after Grammeno .

Just above the road and parallel to the coast runs the dirt road that leads to Gialiskari, so locating the spot where you want to swim is very easy. The area takes its name from the carob trees ( keraties ), which are abundant here.

Indeed, this name, as well as other derivatives (Keratokampos, Keratidi, Kerato, etc.), is very common in areas of Crete where carob trees grow. With so many magnificent beaches in the wider area, Keratides is not as popular for swimming as the other beaches.

However, if you do not have transportation to visit them or if the southwest wind brings big waves to Pahia Ammos , these western beaches of Paleochora are a good choice.
