Lees het verhaal

The secluded area of Chironisia lies on the wild eastern side of the Rodopos Peninsula, just before the enchanting bay of Menies . Although there is no sandy beach here, but rather rocky shores with pebbles, the sheltered cove formed by Cape Chironisi offers an ideal anchorage, perfectly protected from waves and winds.

The small natural harbor has a rocky seabed and is a popular stop for tourist boats arriving from the wider Chania region. Access on foot is nearly impossible due to the harsh terrain and steep cliffs that surround the area.

The wider seabed is home to several ancient shipwrecks. One of them, lying at a depth of about 40 meters, contained building materials that may have been destined for a sacred site—possibly even the famous Sanctuary of Diktynna at Menies .
