Church of Saint Anthony at Roustika

There are many cavernous chapels throughout Crete, most of them dedicated to Saint Anthony . Such one totally unknown chapel is that of Agios Antonios ( Saint Anthony ) by Roustika , Rethymno prefecture.

It is built in a cave in the heart of the cypress wood covering the Roustikian Gorge and is well hidden in the dense vegetation. It is interesting that the chapel is made of wood, which is not a typical type of building chapels in Crete, but in north Greece.
