Thursday, 11 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
A moderate earthquake of magnitude 4.5 struck the Eastern Mediterranean on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 10:30 PM local time (GMT+3). The epicenter was located approximately 93 kilometers south of Moires, in the Heraklion region of Crete, placing it well offshore in open sea. Earthquakes of this magnitude are common in the Eastern Mediterranean and typically cause little to no damage on land. At this distance from populated areas, visitors in Heraklion, Chania, or the northern coastal resorts would likely have felt only minor shaking, if anything at all. No damage or casualties have been reported. Tourists currently on the island can continue their plans as normal. Greece has well-established earthquake monitoring and response systems, and events of this scale in this seismically active region do not pose a significant risk to visitors.
