Back to newsGreece has introduced strict regulations banning sun loungers and umbrellas at 251 beaches nationwide, effective immediately. The measures aim to protect coastal ecosystems and ensure free public access to the shoreline. Under the rules, a minimum portion of each beach must remain free of commercial equipment, and vendors operating outside designated zones face significant fines. For visitors to Crete, this means some popular beaches may have fewer or no rental loungers available. Travelers are advised to bring their own beach towels and portable shade solutions when heading to natural or protected beaches. Beaches in busy resort areas are generally still equipped with facilities, but checking ahead before visiting more remote spots is recommended.
