4.0 Magnitude Earthquake Strikes Crete's Lasithi Region

dimanche 26 avril 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min de lecture
A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck the Lasithi region of eastern Crete. The tremor was recorded by seismological services and felt by residents in the area. Lasithi is home to popular tourist destinations including the Lasithi Plateau, the Dikteon Cave (birthplace of Zeus in Greek mythology), and the coastal town of Agios Nikolaos. A 4.0 magnitude earthquake is considered light to moderate and typically causes little to no structural damage. Crete sits in one of Europe's most seismically active zones, and minor tremors are common and generally pose no significant risk to visitors. No injuries or damage have been reported. Tourists currently in the Lasithi area can continue their plans normally. If you feel a tremor, standard advice applies: stay calm, move away from windows, and follow guidance from local authorities.
