Avoid open elevated terrain during any active storm. The risk is confined to the east; Heraklion itself sees only light showers at 3.3 mm.
Mountains and Gorges
Low cloud will cap the Lefka Ori and Psiloritis for much of the day. Anyone planning gorge walks, including Samaria, should check local conditions before setting out and carry a rain layer. High-altitude visibility will be limited through the morning.

Wait for storms to pass fully before entering the water in those areas.

If eastern Crete is on your itinerary, build flexibility into your schedule. The storms around Ag. Nikolaos and Elounda are likely to be short-lived, and afternoon conditions tend to improve. Morning plans in the area carry the most risk. The E75 gives you a quick route back toward Heraklion or Malia if conditions deteriorate. A light waterproof layer is worth carrying anywhere on the island today.
