Back to newsGreece's summer sales season begins July 13 and runs through August 31, 2026. Shops across the country, including those in Crete's main towns such as Heraklion, Chania, Rethymno, and Agios Nikolaos, are required by law to offer discounted prices during this period. Tourists visiting Crete this summer can expect reductions on clothing, footwear, accessories, and household goods at most retail stores. Discounts typically range from 20% to 50%, with deeper cuts toward the end of August as stores clear remaining stock. Shopping streets in town centers are generally the best places to find deals. Note that tourist souvenir shops and some specialty retailers are not obligated to participate in the official sales period.
