Back to newsA wildfire broke out on the island of Syros, in the Cyclades, prompting local authorities to issue an evacuation warning for affected areas. Emergency services were deployed to contain the blaze. Note that Syros is not part of Crete and is located several hundred kilometers northwest. Tourists currently in Crete are not directly affected by this incident. However, summer wildfire conditions are common across Greece during hot, dry periods. Visitors to Crete should stay alert to local fire risk advisories, avoid lighting fires outdoors, and follow instructions from Greek civil protection authorities (112 emergency number) if conditions change in their area.
