Back to newsCrete is currently dealing with multiple active wildfires across the island. One of the fires, located near Bramiana in the Lasithi regional unit, prompted authorities to activate the emergency alert system (112), with residents urged to evacuate toward the nearby town of Ierapetra. The Bramiana fire is now reported to be subsiding. Ierapetra is a popular coastal destination on the southern coast of eastern Crete. If you are traveling in the Lasithi area, monitor local emergency alerts and follow instructions from authorities. Avoid rural roads near active fire zones, as access may be restricted and smoke can reduce visibility. Keep the Greek emergency number 112 saved on your phone. Conditions can change quickly during summer, so check updates before heading into inland or forested areas in eastern Crete.
