Back to newsRyanair has officially announced changes to its operations in Greece for the upcoming winter season. The airline will close its base in Thessaloniki and reduce capacity at Athens by 700,000 seats. For Crete specifically, Ryanair will suspend operations at both Chania (CHQ) and Heraklion (HER) airports during the winter period.
Tourists planning to visit Crete outside the summer season should be aware that Ryanair flights to and from the island will not be available this winter. Travelers are advised to book alternative carriers such as Aegean Airlines or Sky Express, which maintain year-round schedules to both Cretan airports. Those already holding Ryanair bookings for winter travel to Crete should contact the airline directly to arrange refunds or rebooking options. Planning ahead and checking alternative routes through Athens is recommended for winter visits.
