The fish, an invasive species from the Indo-Pacific, carries a powerful toxin and poses serious risks if consumed. Local fishing communities face economic losses as the species competes with native fish and contaminates catches. Tourists should be aware that lagocephalus must never be eaten, as its organs contain tetrodotoxin, which has no antidote.
