Back to newsOn July 10, the President of ESDAK (Crete's Regional Waste Management Authority) and Mayor of Heraklion, Alexis Kalokerinos, attended a working meeting in Athens to discuss major infrastructure projects planned across the island. The projects concern four areas: Heraklion, Sitia, Hersonissos, and Amari. While specific project details were not disclosed, ESDAK oversees waste management and environmental infrastructure across Crete. Ongoing construction work related to these projects may cause localized road disruptions or site activity near the listed areas. Visitors traveling between Heraklion and Hersonissos, or exploring the more rural Amari valley and eastern Sitia, should allow extra travel time and follow local signage. No immediate impact on tourist sites or beaches is expected.
