Thursday, 26 March 2026/SourceCretan Magazine/1 min read

A total of 13 cases of foot-and-mouth disease have been confirmed in Mytilene on the island of Lesbos as of today. The spread of this zoonotic disease poses significant concerns for the island's agricultural sector. The General Directorate of Veterinary Medicine of the Ministry of Agriculture issued emergency notifications late yesterday regarding the outbreak.

The foot-and-mouth disease outbreak has dramatic implications for the primary sector of Lesbos, which relies heavily on livestock farming. Authorities are implementing containment measures to prevent further spread of the disease among animal populations on the island.
