Back to newsGreece's Health Minister has expressed support for classifying Chania Hospital, in western Crete, as a "medically underserved area." This designation would unlock additional state funding and financial incentives to attract and retain medical staff at the facility. Chania Hospital is the primary public healthcare center serving the western part of the island, including the popular tourist regions around Chania city and the Kissamos peninsula. If approved, the classification could help address staffing shortages and improve the quality of care available locally. Tourists visiting western Crete can use Chania Hospital for emergencies; EU citizens should carry their European Health Insurance Card, while non-EU visitors are advised to hold valid travel health insurance before arrival.
