Ryanair suspends Greece base, cuts winter Crete capacity

Friday, 8 May 2026/SourceNaftemporiki/1 min read
Ryanair has officially announced it will suspend operations at its Thessaloniki base, which currently serves three aircraft, for winter 2026. The airline has also announced capacity reductions at Athens, Heraklion, and Chania airports. Ryanair has directed criticism at Fraport, the German company that manages several Greek airports including Heraklion and Chania, citing airport fees as a contributing factor to the cutbacks. For tourists planning to fly into Crete during winter 2026, fewer Ryanair flights will be available to and from Heraklion and Chania. Travelers should check their existing bookings and consider booking alternative carriers or routes early, as reduced capacity typically means higher fares and limited availability on remaining flights during the off-season period.
