Back to newsTwo wildfires in Crete have been brought under control. The fire near Ierapetra, a coastal town on the southern coast of eastern Crete, has been fully contained. A separate fire near Gazi, a village just west of Heraklion, has no active front remaining. Authorities continue to monitor both areas. Tourists visiting the Ierapetra region or traveling through the Gazi area should be aware that some roads or access routes may still be affected by firefighting operations. Smoke and reduced visibility are possible in these zones. Visitors are advised to follow local authority instructions, avoid any cordoned-off areas, and check for updates before traveling to these locations. No evacuation orders are currently in effect.
