Back to newsOn Saturday morning, June 27, firefighters from the Heraklion Fire Service responded to a fire caused by an air conditioning unit in Agia Triada, a residential area near Heraklion. The alarm was raised just before 9:00 AM, and crews arrived quickly to contain the blaze before it could spread further. The prompt response prevented more serious damage to the property.
The incident serves as a reminder that air conditioning units, especially older models running under high summer heat, can pose a fire risk. Tourists staying in villas or apartments across Crete should ensure that AC units are serviced and not left running unattended for extended periods. If you notice unusual smells or sounds from an AC unit in your accommodation, switch it off and notify your host immediately. No injuries were reported.
