Heraklion Approves €5.7M Project for Two New Urban Beaches

Tuesday, 23 June 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Heraklion has approved a €5.7 million project to develop two new urban beaches along the city's coastal road (paraliaki). The project received the green light from local authorities and will add dedicated bathing areas within the city limits, giving visitors and residents easier access to the sea without traveling far from the centre. While a completion timeline has not been confirmed, the development is expected to improve waterfront infrastructure and increase beachfront options for tourists staying in or near Heraklion. In the meantime, visitors looking for beaches close to the city can use existing spots along the coastal road or head to nearby areas such as Amnisos and Karteros, both a short drive east of the city centre.
