Back to newsThe city of Heraklion has approved a redevelopment project for the Neoria waterfront area, the historic Venetian arsenals district along the harbor. The project aims to transform the coastal front with upgraded public spaces, improved pedestrian access, and a renewed visual identity for one of the city's most historically significant zones. The Neoria, originally built during Venetian rule to shelter and repair warships, sit adjacent to the old port near the iconic Koules fortress. Once complete, the renovation is expected to enhance the visitor experience along Heraklion's seafront, making the area more walkable and accessible. Tourists exploring the old port district should note that construction activity may temporarily affect access to parts of the waterfront during the works.
