Back to newsA new Orthodox church dedicated to Saint Paisios of Mount Athos has been inaugurated in Chania, in western Crete. Saint Paisios, canonized in 2015, is one of the most venerated saints in the Greek Orthodox tradition, and churches bearing his name draw significant numbers of pilgrims and visitors across Greece. The inauguration ceremony, known as the Ieria Egkainia, marks the official consecration of the building for religious use. The church is located in Chania, the second-largest city in Crete and a major tourist hub known for its Venetian harbor and old town. Visitors with an interest in Orthodox Christianity or local religious culture are welcome to attend services. As with all Orthodox churches in Crete, modest dress is required: covered shoulders and knees for both men and women.
