Crete MP Alleges Road Built for Wind Turbines, Not Communities

Monday, 20 April 2026/SourceHaniotika Nea/1 min read
Road construction work in the Sfhinari and Platanos area near Kissamos, in the Chania regional unit of western Crete, has come under scrutiny after local MP Pavlos Polakis raised concerns in parliament. Polakis described the road project as a "scandal," alleging it was built primarily to serve wind turbine installations in the area rather than to benefit local communities. The dispute is ongoing at a political level. Travelers heading to the remote beaches and villages of western Kissamos, including the Gramvousa peninsula area, should expect possible road disruptions or construction activity along secondary routes in that region and may want to check local conditions before setting out.
