Saturday, 2 May 2026/SourceHaniotika Nea/1 min read
The Region of Crete recently represented the island at the 6th European PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) Event in Brussels, showcasing a selection of Cretan products recognized for their authenticity and quality. PDO status is a European certification guaranteeing that a product originates from a specific region and meets strict traditional production standards. Cretan PDO products include extra virgin olive oil, graviera and kefalograviera cheeses, thyme honey, raisins, and several wines. For visitors, this recognition means the labeled products found in local markets, shops, and restaurants across Crete meet verified quality and origin standards. Look for the red and yellow PDO logo when shopping for authentic local goods to bring home. These products are widely available at supermarkets, farmers markets, and specialty food stores throughout the island.
