Back to newsA political dispute has emerged in Crete over the planned road connection between the BOAK highway and Chania Airport and the port of Souda. The left-wing coalition "Laiki Syspirosi" Crete has raised the issue at the Regional Council, alleging that NATO military interests are blocking the infrastructure link. The BOAK is a major east-west highway under construction across northern Crete, intended to significantly improve travel times between the island's main cities and transport hubs. If the connection to Chania Airport is delayed or altered, travelers using that airport may continue to face longer or less direct road access from eastern Crete. No changes to current routes are in effect at this time, and the matter remains under political and administrative review.
