Back to newsThe 5th Armored Brigade "V Division of Cretans" is organizing a commemorative event titled "The Battle of Crete" on Wednesday, May 20, at 19:00. Retired General Ch. Lallousis will speak at the event, which will be held at a cultural center in Crete. The Battle of Crete (May-June 1941) was one of the most significant engagements of World War II in the Mediterranean, during which German paratroopers invaded the island and faced fierce resistance from Allied forces and local Cretan civilians. This historical event remains deeply meaningful to Cretans and is commemorated annually around May 20. Visitors interested in wartime history will find numerous related museums and memorials across the island, including the Battle of Crete Museum in Heraklion. Attendance at the May 20 event is open to the public.
