Meningitis Case Forces School Closure in Crete's Moires

Sunday, 10 May 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
A case of meningitis has been confirmed at a vocational high school (ΕΠΑΛ) in Moires, a town in the Heraklion regional unit of Crete. As a precautionary measure, the Moires Lyceum will remain closed on Monday to allow health authorities to assess the situation and take necessary sanitary steps. The affected student has been taken under medical care. This incident is localized to the school environment and does not pose a direct risk to tourists visiting the area. Moires is an inland town in the Messara plain, roughly 45 kilometers south of Heraklion. Visitors traveling through the region for sightseeing or to reach the south coast beaches can do so without specific concern, though standard hygiene precautions are always advisable when visiting any public space.
