Seismic Swarm Hits Aegean Sea Off Crete, No Damage Reported

Saturday, 23 May 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
A series of seismic tremors has been recorded in the sea area between Crete and the island of Kasos, located southeast of the island. Multiple earthquakes of varying magnitudes struck the offshore zone in quick succession. This stretch of the Aegean and Libyan Sea is one of the most seismically active regions in Europe, and minor swarms of this kind are relatively common. The tremors were centered offshore and no damage to infrastructure or injuries have been reported on Crete. Tourists currently visiting the island, particularly in the eastern Lasithi region, should remain calm. Standard precautions apply: stay away from clifftops and unstable structures during any shaking, and follow guidance from local authorities. Normal travel and activities across Crete are not affected.
