Coast Guard Intercepts 96 Migrants Off Southern Crete

Wednesday, 6 May 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Greek Coast Guard authorities intercepted two small vessels carrying 96 undocumented migrants in waters south of Kalon Limenon (Fair Havens), on Crete's southern coast. The area, located along the Libyan Sea shoreline in the Heraklion regional unit, is a known transit point for irregular maritime crossings from North Africa. All individuals were brought ashore safely and transferred to authorities for processing. This incident has no direct impact on tourist access to beaches or roads in the area. Visitors traveling along the southern coast may notice an increased Coast Guard presence, which is routine in this part of Crete. Beaches and local facilities in the Kalon Limenon area remain open and accessible to tourists.
