Back to newsThe Minoan Palace of Malia, one of Crete's four major Bronze Age palace complexes, is undergoing a formal development and heritage promotion initiative. Located on the north coast, approximately 34 km east of Heraklion near the town of Malia, the site dates to around 1900 BC and ranks among the most significant Minoan archaeological monuments on the island. Authorities have described the effort to restore and better present the palace center as a matter of the highest cultural responsibility. For visitors, the site offers extensive ruins including storage rooms, ceremonial spaces, and the famous Kernos stone. Opening hours and ticket prices are managed by the Greek Ministry of Culture. The site is easily accessible by car or bus from Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos along the northern coastal road.
