Crete Launches Olive Oil Quality Certification Workshops

Thursday, 14 May 2026/SourceGoogle News/1 min read
Educational workshops on the quality standards of Cretan olive oil under the protected designation "Crete/Kriti" were recently held in the regional units of Apokoronas and Mylopotamos. The sessions aimed to inform local producers about certification requirements and quality control practices that distinguish authentic Cretan extra virgin olive oil. Apokoronas is located in the Chania regional unit in western Crete, while Mylopotamos falls within the Rethymno regional unit in central Crete. For visitors, this initiative highlights the importance of looking for the "Crete/Kriti" PDO label when purchasing olive oil locally, as it guarantees origin and quality. Crete produces some of the world's finest extra virgin olive oil, and buying certified products at local markets or cooperatives in these areas supports genuine regional producers and ensures an authentic product.
