Back to newsThe Chania Film Festival and local publisher Pyxida organised a book presentation for "Fourtounes kai Bounatses" (Storms and Calms) on Wednesday, June 17 at 7:00 PM at the Chania Cultural Center (Pneumatiko Kentro Chanion). The title draws on traditional Cretan seafaring terms, with "fourtouna" meaning a rough sea and "bounatsa" a flat calm. The event brought together literature and local maritime heritage in one of Chania's main cultural venues, located in the old town area. Similar cultural evenings are regularly held at the Chania Cultural Center and are generally free or low-cost to attend. Visitors interested in local history, Cretan identity, and the sea culture of the island will find these events a genuine window into community life beyond the tourist trail.
