Crete Celebrates Venizelos Legacy at International Museum Day Events

Monday, 11 May 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
Crete is marking International Museum Day with special events at two historic sites: the Venizelos Residence in Halepa, a district of Chania, and the village of Theriso. Both locations are closely tied to Eleftherios Venizelos, one of Greece's most celebrated statesmen. A hands-on educational workshop is being offered for families with children aged 10 to 13, designed to provide an interactive, experiential approach to learning about local history and heritage. The theme for this year's International Museum Day is "Museums Unite the World." Visitors in the Chania area during mid-May can take this opportunity to explore the Venizelos sites, which offer insight into Cretan political history and the independence movement. The Halepa residence is located in a quiet coastal neighborhood east of Chania's old town, easily reachable by car or local bus.
