Man Rescued From Strong Currents Off Hersonissos Beach, Crete

Tuesday, 28 April 2026/SourceFlashnews/1 min read
A 35-year-old man had to be rescued while swimming near Hersonissos, on the northern coast of Crete, after being swept away by strong sea currents. He was brought safely to Hersonissos port by rescue services. The incident serves as a reminder that sea currents along the Cretan coast can be unpredictable, even for confident swimmers. Hersonissos is one of the island's busiest tourist areas, popular for its beaches and water activities. Visitors are advised to check local conditions before entering the water, swim at beaches with lifeguard supervision, pay attention to flag warnings, and avoid swimming alone in unfamiliar areas. If caught in a current, do not fight it directly; swim parallel to shore until free of the pull, then head back to land.
