Back to newsThe Greek Agricultural Engineers Association (GEOTEE), Crete branch, has raised a formal complaint regarding the cutting of olive trees at a site designated for a new peripheral parking facility in Mournies, on the outskirts of Chania. The association contacted the Chania Municipality's Green Department, which indicated that the municipal service was not involved in the decision. Olive trees hold protected status in Greece, and their removal requires specific permits. The planned parking area is intended to ease vehicle congestion around Chania city center. Visitors driving to Chania should be aware that peripheral parking infrastructure in the area is still under development. For now, street parking and existing municipal lots remain the primary options when visiting the Old Town and harbor area.
