Back to newsA free shadow puppet theater performance of "Karagiozis Rigoletto" will take place on Monday, 11 May 2026, at Plateia Ai-Gianni (Saint John's Square) in Anogia, a traditional mountain village in central Crete. The show begins at 20:30 and admission is free. Karagiozis is a beloved Greek shadow puppet tradition, and seeing it performed in a village square is a genuine cultural experience. Anogia is located roughly 50 km south of Heraklion and is known for its strong Cretan character, local music, and weaving crafts. Visitors attending the evening performance should dress in light layers as mountain temperatures drop after sunset. Arriving early is recommended to secure a good spot in the square.
