Back to newsA contemporary art exhibition titled "Mikis Theodorakis II: The Man, the Musician, the Politician, the Revolutionary" is currently on display in Rethymno. The exhibition celebrates the life and legacy of Greece's most celebrated composer, known internationally for scores including Zorba the Greek and his decades of political activism. On opening night, the exhibition curators led visitors through the works and spoke about Theodorakis's life and career. The show features contributions from multiple participating artists interpreting different facets of his identity. Rethymno's old town is easily reached from Heraklion by bus or car along the E75 highway, roughly 80 kilometres west. Visitors interested in Greek culture and 20th-century history will find this exhibition a meaningful complement to the city's Venetian architecture and fortress. Check the local cultural centre or municipality website for current opening hours.
