Greece is seeing a strong start to the 2026 summer travel season, with 4.7 million international air seats scheduled for the first month of summer, a 5.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025. Crete is among the main beneficiaries, with both Chania and Heraklion airports recording significant growth in inbound flights. This expansion reflects rising demand from European and international travelers choosing Crete as a destination. For visitors, the increased seat capacity means more flight options and potentially more competitive fares when booking trips to the island this summer. Travelers flying into Heraklion (HER) have direct access to central and eastern Crete, while Chania (CHQ) serves the western region. Booking in advance remains advisable, as higher capacity does not always translate to last-minute availability during peak July and August dates.
