Back to newsA workplace accident occurred on Saturday morning in central Chania when part of a building under renovation partially collapsed in Courthouse Square (Plateia Dikastirion). A section of the structure gave way during construction work, causing debris to fall onto the surrounding area.
Courthouse Square is located in the heart of Chania's city center, close to popular streets and pedestrian areas. Visitors in the area should expect possible road closures or restricted access near the square while authorities assess structural safety and construction teams secure the site. Emergency services responded to the scene.
If you are staying near or planning to walk through the Chania city center, check local conditions before heading to that part of town. The old town, harbor, and market areas may still be fully accessible depending on the extent of the perimeter established by authorities.
