Back to newsGreek carrier Sky Express has launched direct flights connecting Alexandroupoli, in northeastern Greece (Thrace region), with Heraklion, the capital of Crete, for the 2026 summer season. The new route eliminates the need for a layover in Athens, making travel between these two destinations faster and more convenient. This connection benefits tourists already exploring northern Greece who wish to add Crete to their itinerary, as well as Greek domestic travelers heading to the island. Heraklion is Crete's main hub, with easy access to popular destinations including Knossos, the Lassithi Plateau, and the island's eastern resorts. Travelers arriving at Heraklion International Airport (HER) can rent a car or use local bus services (KTEL) to reach other parts of the island. Check Sky Express for schedules and booking.
