Back to newsStarting this Monday, the Municipality of Heraklion is launching a new round of road improvements, including pedestrian crossing markings and asphalt resurfacing across the city. The Deputy Mayor for Technical Works confirmed to local radio Cretaone 102.3 that line painting begins next week, with paving works continuing throughout July and the summer months.
Tourists visiting Heraklion this summer should expect some traffic disruptions and temporary road closures in affected areas. Works are typically carried out during off-peak hours to minimize congestion, but drivers are advised to allow extra travel time when navigating the city center. Pedestrian access near active worksites may be temporarily redirected. The upgrades are intended to improve road safety and infrastructure quality across the municipality before the peak tourist season reaches its height.
