The Municipal Council of Heraklion has formally condemned the vandalism of a bust honoring Nikos Xylouris, one of Crete's most celebrated musicians and a deeply revered cultural symbol of the island. Xylouris, known widely as "Psaronikos," was a legendary lyra player and singer from the village of Anogeia, and his legacy remains central to Cretan identity.
