Greek Spring Holidays Trigger Peak Travel Season in Crete

Monday, 27 April 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
Greece observes several public holidays in spring and summer 2026, creating long weekends that affect travel and services across Crete. The Holy Spirit holiday (Whit Monday) falls on June 8, 2026, and is a national day off. From late April onward, a series of three-day weekends punctuates the calendar, meaning banks, government offices, and some shops will be closed on those dates. Tourists visiting during these periods should expect heavier domestic traffic, busier beaches, and higher accommodation demand as Greek families travel within the country. Restaurants and tourist-facing businesses generally remain open. If you plan to visit popular sites or need administrative services during May or June, check ahead for closures and book transport and accommodation in advance to avoid disruption.
