Crete hit by early summer heat wave with temperatures soaring above 30°C

Crete is experiencing an early summer heat wave, with temperatures climbing to 30°C and above. According to meteorologist Olga Papavgoulis, the warm conditions that began over the weekend are expected to continue through the coming days. While locals may find these temperatures unremarkable by peak summer standards, visitors arriving in early May should be prepared for genuinely hot midday conditions. Tourists are advised to carry water, apply sunscreen, and limit outdoor activity between noon and 4 PM. Morning and late afternoon remain the best times for sightseeing, hiking, or beach visits. Coastal areas and higher elevations will offer some relief from the heat. No weather warnings are currently in place, and conditions are generally favorable for outdoor activities provided basic sun safety precautions are followed.
