Serious Road Accident Disrupts Heraklion Coastal Route

Saturday, 9 May 2026/SourceCretaOne/1 min read
A serious road accident occurred on Saturday evening on the coastal road (paraliaki) in Heraklion, near the Pankritio stadium. Emergency medical services (EKAV) were dispatched to the scene. The coastal road is one of the main routes connecting central Heraklion to the eastern districts and is heavily used by tourists traveling between the city, the port, and areas east of the capital. Accidents on this stretch can cause significant traffic delays in both directions. If you are driving or taking a taxi along the Heraklion coastal road, especially near the Pankritio stadium area, allow extra time and follow directions from local traffic authorities. Consider using the inland route via the national highway (BOAK) as an alternative if congestion is reported. Always wear a seatbelt and drive cautiously on coastal roads after dark.
